Kuwahara is a manufacturer from the BMX world, so they must be able to build sturdy bikes! Yet here you see a lugged frame-fork combination, while in BMX sport you only saw welded tube connections. So it is quite surprising that Kuwahara seems to ignore his BMX heritage with this mountain bike at this point.
The parts show is a mix of different brands: Sugino, Suntour, DiaCompe, all very well known in the BMX world. Only 18 gears and regular round chainrings contribute to the somewhat conservative look of this bike.
The derailleur guard and QR hubs give the Kuwahara a few meager bonus points, but in 1988 you'd expect more fireworks from a BMX brand.
